Reading

I can remember back in high school and the first part of college I had a great distain for reading. When the teacher would assign a book to be read, I always hoped there was a movie version of the book available so I could just watch the movie instead of reading the book. I had convinced myself that I was a “visual learner” and I felt I could understand the story better through the movie. In reality — I was lazy. It wasn’t until I graduated from community college and started my studies at Florida State University (FSU) that my love for reading was birthed.

Because of my laziness it took my roughly six years to get through community college. By the time I started FSU I was older then my average classmate and wanted to get a college degree as soon as possible. I liked to write — but I wasn’t very good at it — so, I picked English. For someone who doesn’t like to read, this might not have been the best degree to pursue. However, it was in my studies that I discovered how great reading could be. And the more I read the more I started to feel my desire to write grow. One of my favorite professors at FSU once said, “If you want to learn how to write better — read.” I have been following his advice ever since.

Below is a list of books that I am currently reading or have read. As I read a book, I plan to write my thoughts about them. If you have read any of these books, I would love to here your thoughts on them as well.
